This month at Vipers Basketball Club, we’re celebrating the unsung heroes of the game – our referees and table officials. Without them, basketball simply couldn’t happen. From making the tough calls on the court to keeping the score, time, and stats running smoothly, officials ensure that every game is fair, safe, and enjoyable for everyone involved.
As a community club, we’re proud to support both new and experienced officials as they develop their skills. Many of our young referees and table officials are learning their craft right here at the Vipers, gaining confidence, knowledge, and experience in every game they help to run. Officials Month is the perfect opportunity to recognise their hard work and commitment, as well as encourage others to consider stepping into the role.
This month, you can also hear directly from some of our young officials – Dan, Alisha, and Dylan – as they answer questions about their journey into officiating, how they’ve been preparing for the 25/26 season, and what they enjoy most about being part of the game. Basketball isn’t just about the players – it’s about the whole team that makes the game possible. So this month, we say a huge thank you to our referees and table officials for the vital part they play in keeping the sport we love alive and growing.
