Vipers Basketball is entering an exciting new chapter under the leadership of Head Coach Joe Bell, who has been working hard to strengthen the future of the club and the wider basketball community.
One of Joe’s first major steps has been to streamline the senior programme, bringing the seniors together as one united team. Alongside this, he has introduced a youth setup, giving young players a clear pathway to grow, develop, and represent the club at higher levels.

The club has also proudly achieved Level 1 Club Standard — a mark of quality and commitment that sets a strong foundation for continued success.
In addition to his work with Vipers, Joe was recently appointed as the Under 18s coach for our friends at Hartlepool Huskies, further showcasing his passion and dedication to player development across the region.

Looking forward, Vipers are aiming to build a new Dynamic Performance Pathway, supported by a modern talent identification system working alongside local leagues — especially the Next Gen League. This pathway will give players clear opportunities to progress and fulfil their potential within the sport.
The club is also expanding its people-power, with 4 new coaches, 4 new officials, and 2 new admin staff joining the Vipers family. This investment ensures stronger support for players, volunteers, and the wider community, helping create a sustainable future for basketball in our region.
Joe has acknowledged that Vipers is now truly a community club, serving players of all ages and providing opportunities across three venues in Gateshead, South Tyneside, and Durham. This growth ensures that basketball is more accessible than ever to people in our local communities.
